The Naked Scientist podcast series – Dr Zania Stamataki talks with Dr Chris Smith about viral immunology. Based at Cambridge University’s Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), the Naked Scientists are a team of scientists, doctors and communicators whose passion is to help the general public to understand and engage with the worlds of science, technology and medicine. Planet DIVOC-91 is led by Dr Bella Starling, Director of Vocal at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Sara Kenney, Creative Director at Wowbagger Productions, in association with the Academy of Medical Sciences. The project was launched with the support of Sir Patrick Vallance FMedSci, who was interviewed for the debut chapter.

Throughout the project, the Academy has connected young adults working on the comic directly with our Fellows and grant awardees, including Sir Patrick Vallance FMedSci, Professor Ian Goodyer FMedSci, Dr Zania Stamataki and more. For more information, see their interviews on Webtoon

Café Scientifique Leeds May 2020 zoom presentation and Q&A on gaining immunity to viruses. Hosted by Dominic Rayner, this was a very enjoyable interactive Zoom session with 100 participants, asking interesting questions.

This course showcases the Ins and Outs of liver transplants, here at the University of Birmingham and the QE Hospital.

Liver Online CourseLiver MOOC Our free online course in liver biology in health and disease.

So far, over 20,000 learners have registered for this free course that shows our research, and discusses how to look after your liver.

Pint of Science

Pint of Science Festival Together with Dr Charli Flavell, Zania co-coordinated the first Pint of Science festival in Birmingham in 2015, with 12 sold-out events.

We talk to visitors about our work and run experiments, and lots of activities for children and adults.

We participate in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Showcase day, which is open to anyone that would like to know more about the liver.

We meet with patients and explain how our research aims to develop new therapies for liver disease.
